Interesting video. I think the affinity for castles is a little bizarre, because they were perhaps the most emblematic, hierarchical and rigid reflections of the patriarchal Christian world aside from cathedrals- castles. The purpose of castles was to enforce the feudal system. Castles weren't romantic places of magical "Mists of Avalon" BS, they were, essentially, military bases that were given to the favored (most loyal) aristocrats and were integral to preserving an extremely rigid and brutal system of governance that absolutely eschewed the notion of innate humanity. For example, if you refused to pay the Tithe, you wouldn't be disciplined by the church. You'd be disciplined by the Lord of the Manor, whose impunity was enabled by having a military base. Granted, the Feudal world's patriarchy was very different than the post-industrial kind, but romanticizing castles is no better than romanticizing churches. The worship of Artemis in Crete wasn't related to the period of Minoan goddess-worship. The priestesses that have been depicted worshipped some sort of Goddess, often represented by snakes or doves. Artemis was part of a later Patriarchal tradition that overtook the earlier Bronze-age religions of the Aegean. The worship of Artemis would have occurred after Minoan culture was destroyed, when the Mycenaeans, conquered the Minoan and ended up folding them into their theology and tradition. Interestingly, one of the most important traits of Mycenaean culture was the building of strong stone fortifications- akin to castles, for much the same reason that I mention earlier. Mycenaean religion, like their culture, was fiercely patriarchal. This was the period of Homeric Myth, and it's the period when most of the myths we know were codified. Like most of the Gods and Goddesses of the Mycenaean imperial religion, Artemis would have been an amalgamation of earlier Goddesses (much in the way that Christians "stole" the stories of Pagans, the Myceneans stole the stories of earlier Pagans to make their own religion more palatable. Basically the Christians didn't invent religious repression. The Furies, in Greek myth, were actually Pre-Olympian deities, and Greek Myth preserves the moment that Zeus, as a Patriarchal non-elemental Olympian thrusts the furies into a cave and relegates them to a minor role- serving justice for familial murder whereas before they had been much more significant goddesses. Zeus then goes on to appropriate the most divine feminine traits- he carries children to term and gives birth to multiple deities- from his through, or his skull. Zeus is, in fact, the blueprint of Christianity. The Greek "Z" isn't pronounced "z" during this time. It is pronounced "Zd", meaning that Zeus would have been pronounced "Zd-eh-oos," and is an offshoot of the same root for the later Latin "Deus," or "God." The cults to his daughter, Artemis, don't begin until the 8th century, which is around the time that the temple you referenced would have been built. By that time, the Minoan Civilization had been deceased for roughly three centuries. The Old Testament would be written only a century later. Casting Christianity a a singular force against a Pagan monolith simply doesn't account for the complexities of human worship and its ties to oppression and governance. Akhenaten sought to replace Egyptian polytheism with his own worship of the Sun, placing himself as the divine priest at the head of the Egyptian faith. He did so, most likely, to consolidate the Pharaonic power that had been damaged by the irregularities of the Nile. In other words, Christianity simply did better what most Pagans already did to one another, and "Pagans" are not a homogenous group. There are some shared threads in regions, but the pagans of Ireland are not the Pagans of England, nor are they the Pagans of France or Germany. One of the things I find fascinating is the assumption the prevalence of Christianity was the result of Roman persecution of Pagans. This is false. The Romans persecuted Pagans until they collapsed. Following their collapse, the regions of Europe that still retained much of their Pagan tradition slowly folded into Christianity, not by force, but because of how welcome Monasteries were in their areas. Monasticism is the true reason for the spread of Christianity- not the failings of a dying empire. Despite the romanticized medicine of shamans and witches, Monasteries brought a much deeper Roman knowledge of anatomy, for example, and could perform complex surgeries that were simply not available to those communities before. In fact, it was the popularity of Monasteries that created "The Church." as we know it today. The large institution was necessary because Monasteries became so widespread and popular that a system had to be developed, and so the church evolved as the religion grew. This is why it's important to understand the distinctions in the Christian faith.

As a guy who was raised by a single Mum who was extremely emotionally oppressed, thank you. Growing up, I could always tell how much anger she felt towards men - and as a consequence, me - and never expressed, it was just replaced by this iciness, a coldness. But that coldness always let me know how she really felt about men, and about me. She was otherwise a great Mum, but very emotionally damaged. This is what so many women feel, so thank you for having the courage to not only face it but to show the world what it is they are hiding from themselves. Thank you for expressing for what so few dare to even think about.
